- 9. Project Description/Overview
- The City proposes to construct approximately 3,900 feet of dual-purpose boardwalk/erosion barrier of concrete and composite decking along the south side of Hwy 90 from Debuys Road to the east entrance of Edgewater Mall. In areas of existing concrete boardwalk, the boardwalk will be expanded to add the erosion barrier and composite decking. In areas with no boardwalk, a new boardwalk will be constructed atop the existing seawall. Some amenities will include structural concrete, concrete flatwork, composite decking and timber beach access stairs.

- Project goals include: 1. Coastal conservation - reduce erosion of sand by creating a physical barrier 2. Public access - continue the City's "kneewall" boardwalk program to support access and enjoyment of the public beach 3. Public safety - reduce the driving hazards created by sand on U.S. Highway 90.

- The proposed dual-purpose boardwalk and erosion-control structure will help reduce the loss and migration of beach sand by creating a physical barrier that limits wind-driven erosion. In addition to providing safe and improved public access along the shoreline, the project will promote shoreline stabilization, protect valuable coastal resources, and help preserve the beach for long-term public recreational use.
