- 9. Project Description/Overview
- The navigable channel at the mouth of the Wolf River has been silting in over time, and is in need of maintenance dredging, some debris removal, and restoration of channel markers. Jetty construction to protect the channel upstream of this location has shifted the location of siltation further into the bay, resulting in the need for dredging to maintain safe access to boaters from the Wolf River. Much of this area is currently only 1'-2' deep, causing a hazard to water traffic entering or leaving the Wolf River. This area does fall inside a federally permitted channel, helping with the permitting process. To provide safe navigation through this area, approximately 4,000 feet of the channel, approximately 100' wide, needs to be dredged an average of 4', resulting in a channel depth of -6'. A large tree stump/root ball near the location of channel marker 5 also needs to be removed, assumed to be left from a storm in recent years. Also requested is restoration of channel markers at location #3 and lighted channel markers at location #5.

This provides water access to numerous points along all of the nearby water bodies, allowing for recreation, educational, and commercial boat traffic in the federally permitted channel safely.
