9. Project Description/Overview
This project will serve to replace a portion of the existing gravity sewer system on Henderson Avenue, within the city limits of Pass Christian. The existing system was constructed during the 1950's and 1960's and is still comprised of vitrified clay pipe with intermittent locations of PVC due to repairs that have been required through the years. With the increase in activity in development activity in these areas, due to continued efforts to rebuild post-Hurricane Katrina, upgrades to existing fiber optic infrastructure, gas service and industrial activity due to an upswing in the economy, the city has been experiencing frequent failures in the aging sewer collection system. The new sewer will help maintain adequate services for the industrial and business growth in the area. This project will also serve to improve the functionality and effectiveness of the transport of sanitary sewage to the nearby publicly owned wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). to provide a safe and reliable source of sewage transport across the City with the expectation of improved employee safety and efficiency of the system to deliver the waste to the WWTP without overflows, spills, etc. in a continuous effort to eliminate any potential environmental impacts due to domestic sewage.
