The project is specifically designed to protect the shoreline, provide coastal conservation, restore damaged infrastructure, enhance hurricane protection to existing infrastructure. The areas to be protected are prone to erosion and are especially vulnerable to river flood events, tropical storms and hurricanes. The project will also reduce frequent maintenance as experienced by the existing timber pier systems. The locations are highly visible and are used by residents and visitors.
