9. Project Description/Overview
This project involves restoration and improvement of the major drainage area which flows through Hiller Park with an outfall in the Back Bay of Biloxi. Stormwater and debris will collect in several man-made ponds in the park before flowing into the back bay. The project intends to manage the flow of water through a series of interconnected detention ponds thus reducing the amount of nutrients released into the bay. The planting of native marsh grass and other environmentally friendly plants will filter the stormwater as it moves in a "waterfall" effect through the series of detention ponds.
10. Project Goals/Objectives

15. In what way does this project meet the goals and objectives of the Department of Marine Resources, which includes enhancing, protecting and conserving the marine interest of Mississippi for present and future generations?
This project meets the criteria for GOMESA Funding by mitigation of the activities through funding of onshore infrastructure projects. This GOMESA project involves restoration and improvement of a major drainage area which flows through the City's Hiller Park with an outfall in the Back Bay of Biloxi. The project intends to manage the flow of water through a series of inter-connected detention ponds thus reducing the amount of nutrients and organic material that arc released into the bay. The planning of native marsh grass and other environmentally friendly will filter the stormwater as it moves in a waterfall effect through a series of detention ponds. The project will enhance and restore tidal areas and improve the natural habitat for birds, marine animals and fish.
