9. Project Description/Overview
The City of Bay St. Louis proposes to extend the end of the Jimmy Rutherford Fishing Pier approximately 750 LF and install an open air fishing platform approximately 50' by 75' at the end of the pier extension. Additional finger piers will add day boater decking.
10. Project Goals/Objectives
Project goals consist of providing sufficient and safe public access to the water for fishing activities. The additional fishing area will assist in bringing in more tourists to the area to experience the fishing environment the Rutherford Pier is known for as well as contribute more to the local and state economy. Additional Day Docking Piers will provide safe public access to the BSL Harbor and downtown area.

(A) Projects and activities for the purpose of coastal protection, including conservation, coastal restoration, hurricane protection, and infrastructure directly affected by coastal wetlands losses
Yes: The proposed project provides safe areas for recreational fisherman to access coastal waters for fishing activities thus preventing further damage to existing fish habitat and wildlife. The Pier will be designed to withstand hurricane forces while also providing further hurricane protection to the entrance channel of the Bay St. Louis Municipal Harbor.
(B) Mitigation of damage to fish, wildlife, or natural resources.
Yes: The Pier will provide access to public restrooms and waste disposal facilities thus providing coastal protection while eliminating and mitigating damage lo fish, wildlife and other natural resources caused by the improper disposal of wastes and litter.
(C) Implementation of a federally-approved marine, coastal, or conservation management plan.
(D) Mitigation of the impact of Outer Continental Shelf activities through funding of onshore infrastructure projects.
