- 9. Project Description/Overview
- The City of Pascagoula is requesting GOMESA funds to replace and add additional drainage improvements to remedy flooding along the Live Oak Corridor, which includes north Market Street, Pascagoula Street and Magnolia Street. The first phase of this project has been awarded FY23 GOMESA funds totaling $2,000,000. This request is for the second phase of the project. This area is prone to considerable flooding issues during heavy rain events, with stormwater causing damage to the surrounding properties and compromising the safety of the roadways, sidewalks and other infrastructure. Stormwater from affected areas can collect various pollutants including oil, chemicals and sediment, transferring them to our local waterways. Replacing the failing drainage system in this area will protect infrastructure, minimize erosion, and improve water quality issues related to sediment runoff.

These issues include floodwater damage to the surrounding properties, safety issues to roadways, sidewalks and infrastructure, and stormwater runoff containing oil, chemicals, and sediment transferred to our local waterways.

- The estimated completion time for this project is approximately 24 months. This is a phased project, the first phase has received GOMESA funds. Design Phase - prepare bid documents, submit approvals, agency review and approval - 4 months Bid Phase - advertisement process, bid opening, award selection, contract execution - 3 months Construction Phase - Preconstruction conference, notice to proceed, substantial completion, final completion - 17 months
