- The proposed project includes installation of approximately 6,000 LF of sewer infrastructure, including placement of a lift station to serve the area demands, from the intersection ofHWY57/Poticaw Rd Intersection to Paige Bayou Road in Vancleave, MS. The extension will assist in allowing removal of a number of failing onsite wastewater disposal systems (15+) in the area including allowing commercial and residential development (single-lot, multi-family, retail, health campus, etc) within area that would otherwise be limited due to lack of available public sewer collection services. The extension(s), including lift station, would serve as a gateway to expanding future public collections systems within the Poticaw Bayou Area Watershed in the near future.
- 10. Project Goals/Objectives
- 1. Obtain project funding source(s). 2. Award and complete design of extension. 3. Advertise and bid project. 4. Award and construct extension project. 5. Connect residents to extended infrastructure.
- 11. Which of the following authorized uses set forth in the GOMESA Act does this project fall under?
- (A) Projects and activities for the purpose of coastal protection, including conservation, coastal restoration, hurricane protection, and infrastructure directly affected by coastal wetlands losses
- Yes: Project is intended to provide public sewer services to underserved area, reducing the likelihood of failing onsite wastewater disposal systems impacting the downstream water quality through non-point source pollution within the Poticaw Bayou Watershed. The project benefits will serve to provide human and coastal protection through reduced risk to coastal water bodies.
- (B) Mitigation of damage to fish, wildlife, or natural resources.
- Yes: Failing onsite wastewater disposal systems in flood plains can result in increased Enterococci concentrations through non-point source pollution in downstream water bodies. Reducing the possibility of these failures through expansion of public sewer systems within the coastal flood plain will improve water quality and habitats for fish, wildlife, and natural resources.
- (C) Implementation of a federally-approved marine, coastal, or conservation management plan.
- Yes: The project would support non-point source pollution reduction identified in Mississippi's Coastal Program Management Plan (MS DMR/ April 2020).
- (D) Mitigation of the impact of Outer Continental Shelf activities through funding of onshore infrastructure projects.
